Here is Ed...
1. Scott Owen, All American from Northern Illinois (5th in 2002) will get another year at NIU. Due to injury in 1997-98, the NCAA has granted him an extra year. Scott from New Mexico is a very good contender for the title in 2003.
2. Griff Powell, All American from Illinois (Seventh) will be the new Head Coach at Highland Park. Griff is from New York, but spent his early days in Illinois. His father has recently retired from Administration in Illinois.
3. Lou Goldstein, a tireless worker for fairness in Title 9, is now working in Washington D.C. for the ACLU. Looking forward to great changes in that office for a decent equalization program.
4. Jeff Pape is putting this information up on the internet. It is called: IllinoisWrestling.com
5. A sad note: Christopher Chappell, State Qualifier from Glenbard West in 1986, was stabbed to death in Aurora. A suspect has been charged with an attack from the back, no other information available. Condolances can be sent to Bernie Botheroyd - 20 Walnut Road, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Bernie will forward to family.
6. Jeff Craig, coach and administrator at Shepard, has accepted the post of Principal at Davenport Central in Iowa. This is the school that Jeff's father James graduated from. Jeff graduated from Oak Lawn Richards. He will receive his PhD. in about 2 weeks. All he has left is the dissertation. Way to go Jeff!
7. Joe Gassen, son of Hall of Famer Larry Gassen, has accepted a 7th grade math position at Hubble Middle School in Wheaton. He will also assist Ed West in Wrestling.
8. Yorkville now joins the list of unfilled wrestling positions. Carl Perry resigned recently to return to Illinois as an assistant to Mark Johnson, replacing Steve Marionatti who has returned to the private sector. Still looking are: Marion, East Aurora; Sandwich and Waubonsee Valley. Coaches are really leaving early-on in their careers. They rarely reach 15 years anymore.
9. Cael Sanderson received another award - He has been named Big 12 Male Athlete of the Year and this is a football and basketball conference.
10. The State Hall of Fame Banquet will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Park Place of Countryside Banquet Hall. Details and Maps will be made available later on. The State All State Wrestling Banquet will be held on Sunday, April 27, 2003, also at the Park Place.

Here are the kids we have our eye on in Class A - The year in school is their year in school last year. Some of the Seniors listed were not actually Seniors last year. I need help with kids years in schools. I have already received a lot of updates on wrestlers. Keep them coming...we will be adding the IAWA and AAU top two finishers to our "watch out for."
